The political season is here and ramping up! Typically that results in groans over the non-stop political ads we’ll be hearing BUT for voice talent, this can be a joyous time! Why? Because a good portion are UNION gigs and because there’s a lot of volume.

Sanya Simmons specifically asked if we had a political ad workshop we could provide. I did do some digging to see if we could book an expert in that area with no luck SOOOO instead…here’s some totally FREE tips!

Erik Seastrand, of ACM and previously William Morris, is the person to thank for these great tips! Thank you, Erik, for taking time to share with us.

TIP 1: Don’t worry about a political demo!

The reason Erik said this is because it can really pigeonhole a talent. Have you already created one? Don’t worry about that but Erik did caution against putting it on your website. Have it available to send to potential agencies via email.

TIP 2: Decide which team.

Whether it’s for political conviction or where your voice fits in, decide which political party you’d like to voice.

TIP 3: Listen to current political spots.

Political ads and styles can change quickly. Stay current with the style in order to turn in a better audition.

TIP 4: Stick as close to your natural voice as possible.

For political ads these days, Erik said most want your authentic voice. It’s good to have a range but keep it close to your natural voice.

TIP 5: Search “Political Media Consultants” when self marketing

Most political ads are booked through political media consulting firms. This is the search term you need when looking at Linkedin and Google.

Hope these tips help! Thank you again, Erik.
